About Us

We make NOYS.

NOYS is a national

organization that
is transforming our

how we view

young people.

Since its inception nearly 25 years ago, National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) was founded by the U.S Department of Transportation’s regulatory agency - National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) due to an interest in creating a collaboration between nonprofit groups that received funds for youth traffic safety.

Today, NOYS is a national youth-powered organization that shifts power to marginalized youth to address transportation equity and mobility justice in their local communities.

“We know that our organization’s history hasn’t always been centered around youth voices,” said Jacob Smith, Executive Director of NOYS. “We were founded as as coalition led by leaders of youth-serving organizations, and we did the good work then, but we knew in order to truly center youth voices, we must reconcile and recognize that their needs and desires may require a fundamental shift in our mission, narrative and programming”
