Youth Safety Programs

NOYS members have participated in numerous collaborative efforts and activities to address critical health and safety issues. Some of these include:

  • Replicable cross age mentoring programs from member organizations. Examples include increasing helmet use, zero tolerance for underage drinking and driving, car seat safety checks, bullying prevention, internet safety, and safety belt use.
  • National events that focus on issues such as violence prevention, safe and sober New Year’s Eve activities, and  campus/community speak outs.  Mechanisms for federal agencies and non-government health and safety organizations to promote their health and safety initiatives and resources.

Examples are:

  • HBO/RADD documentary, “SMASHED, Toxic Tales of Teens and Alcohol” video and leaders’ guide
  • Stop Bullying Now! Campaign
  • STOP the Violence
  • Over the Limit Under Arrest
  • Safe Spring Break
  • Safe Tribal Communities
  • Buckle Up or Eat Glass
  • Click it or Ticket
  • Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL)
  • Zero Tolerance Laws

There is no other organization like NOYS.  It is the longest operating coalition of youth serving and youth membership organizations in America. NOYS youth leaders take their training, experiences, and energy back to their respective organizations to mobilize their peers to impact their schools and communities.

The diversity of NOYS membership organizations ensures that programs and events reach a range of youth populations that vary by race, income, gender, ability, and geographic locations. NOYS draws its membership from the full spectrum of national youth organizations in the U.S. that share the NOYS commitment to youth health and safety.
